Mzilikazi II attends Bakholokoe Annual Event in KZN

HRM King Mzilikazi II visited South Africa on the 25th May 2019 to attend an annual event of the Bakholokoe people in KwaZulu Natal (KZN) Enquthu. The Bakholokoe are under the Kingship of the Moloi’s and are part of the Great Basotho People who are found mainly in Southern Africa.

The King was officially invited in his capacity as the King of Matabeleland. This is another great recognition for King Mzilikazi II. The King was part of the programme where he was given a slot to speak. Various South African chiefs attended and graced the well organised and beautiful occasion.

Speaking at the function, the King thanked the Bakholokoe people and their paramount chief, Chief Lehlokonolo Moloi for inviting him and for remembering and recognizing the Royal Kingdom of Mthwakazi and his Kingship. He thanked all Mthwakazi people who accompanied him to the annual event most of whom are based in South Africa.

On the 26th of May 2019, the King was invited to attend the Memorial Service of the late Dr Dabengwa that was organized by Zapu members. The function was held in Braamfontain, Joburg, South Africa. Various Mthwakazi groups and individuals attended and graced the ceremony. Ex-Zipra cadres and of UMkhonto wesizwe, the armed wing of the ANC during the liberation struggle also attended the Service.

Also most notable was the presence of HRM King Bhungane III of the Embo Kingdom who himself is a former MK cadre. King Bhungane III was honoured together with King Mzilikazi II as the very important guests in the house and was also given the opportunity to address the people after his counterpart. He narrated his long and fruitful history with the late Dr Dumiso Dabengwa. He then spoke strongly on the need for respect and unity of purpose.

Addressing the mourners, King Mzilikazi II highly commended the late Dr Dabengwa for his selfless contribution to the cause of many, calling him a sober, respectful, highly disciplined leader and soldier.

King Mzilikazi II thanked Zapu for organizing the service. He described Zapu, a mother political party, none violent and highly disciplined due to its history of disciplined and respectful leadership including that of Dr Dabengwa.

The King thanked uMthwakazi and the people of South Africa who attended the memorial. He briefly narrated his encounter with Dr Dabengwa in the past two or so years, calling him a rare man and one who was respectful of our traditions and its customs.

The King stated that sometime in 2017 he sent two elderly men to Dr Dabengwa to request him for a meeting even at his offices if that was ok with him. This was to highlight him on the restoration work. “uDr Dabengwa wala wathi angeke yena alandwe yiNkosi. He clearly stated that it was his obligation and his honour to come to the presence of the King, ethi iNkosi ingeke ikhonze kuye kodwa yena. The appointment was fixed and he honoured it timeously.” said the King.

The King also did mention that one of his meetings with DD was at his Matebeleland Zambezi Water Project Offices at the invitation of DD. This was for updates and some important aspects of the restoration of the kingdom were discussed, said King Mzilikazi. One of his passions were the Matebeleland Zambezi Water Project. “Ubaba uDabengwa elaborately shared his vision and plans concerning this very important project”. The purpose of the venue was also to share some diagrammatic information pertaining to this project.

While the King was taking the floor to speak, four rowdy young men stood up in protest and walked out of the Memorial. These four men were later identified as members of the so-called Ibutho leNqama, a self-styled and ill-disciplined renegade “political and cultural group” that usually appears at functions to do with Prince Bulelani Lobhengula Khumalo.

The packed hall looked in amazement and disbelief at their unbecoming rowdy behaviour as they walked out during a Memorial service where culturally, utmost respect for the dead is expected. In a clear show of disapproval of the behaviour of these malcontents, the packed house sat attentively to listen to the King. As the King delivered his powerful message, people responded positively to the message and intermittently clapped hands in support.

Meanwhile King Mzilikazi II visited Gwelo on his return to the Kingdom, at the invitation of elders there.
